Course Description

OSHA 510This course covers OSHA Standards, Policies, and Procedures in the construction industry. Topics include scope and application of the OSHA Standards, construction safety and health principles, and special emphasis is placed on the most hazardous conditions.

Upon course completion students will have the ability to define terms found in the OSHA Construction Industry Standards, identify hazards which occur in the construction industry, and determine appropriate standards, policies, and procedures.

Who Should Attend

Individuals responsible for overseeing safety on construction projects such as: Hospitals, Military Installations, Highways, Federal Building, Cities, School Districts, Ports, Refineries and many other projects.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Describe the effects of workplace injuries and illnesses
  2. Explain the mission and importance of OSHA
  3. Describe the organization, origin and codification of OSHA standards
  4. Describe the process for OSHA inspections, citations, and penalties
  5. Explain the OSHA recordkeeping requirements for injuries and illnesses
  6. Describe programs and requirements in OSHA 29 CFR 1926 standards related to injuries and illnesses.

 Registration Eligibility

Students who wish to participate in OSHA–numbered courses in the online synchronous video conferencing format must have a valid physical address in OSHA's San Francisco Region (AK, AZ, CA, OR, NV, HI, ID, WA, Guam, and American Samoa), or obtain permission from their local OTIEC to attend a class outside their home region.

Other CSUDH OTIEC courses can be taken by anyone (no residency required).

  • An internet connection – broadband wired or wireless (4G/LTE or better)
  • Access to computer or laptop with built-in camera – one student per device
  • OSHA 510, 511, 500 and 501 Students only:
    Additional stand-alone webcam or secondary device (phone)
  • Built-in or external speakers/headset and microphone
